31.1.11

Ah the simple things. Like stewed apple and custard.
A rather yummy way to round off January which has mostly been cold, dark and smattered lightly with new experiences.

Bye January!

30.1.11

In October last year I went to Brazil as part of a charity trip organised through my employer to repair a school in a small rural village.

On Wednesday I am going up to Fort William to give a presentation on my trip to a Rotary Club that gave me a donation towards my fundraising.

Today I prepared my presentation. It took about 3 hours to make a 7 minute presentation.

Today I went into Glasgow with Eileen. I found what I want for my birthday in July. I figured it could just go in the livingroom and I'll sit on it to watch TV.
Our main reason for going out for the day was to get a fish pedicure - or fishicure. It was possibly the weirdest sensation in the world, and Eileen squealed alot but it was quite good fun. We could actually feel their little fish mouths nibbling ourfeet.
We also went and had a very very tasty lunch at the13th Note bar. Its a vegetarian place so we had falafel burgers, YUM.
It was good to just go out for a wander and a natter :)

28.1.11

Spotted this advert in Queen Street train station this morning and decided it looked tasty enough to buy.

So I got one from the garage on the way to work and had it after lunch. It was alright. However Caramel eggs and Wispa Caramel are better, in my opinion.

Mum went out for 'a wee wander round Tesco' this fine evening. This turned out to be her galavanting off for 2 hours and coming home with numerous heavy bags full of goodies. Sadly she returned close to bed time and i couldn't have many of said goodies (I did have a frangipane though).

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! Its Super Jen!!

Unfortunately I am not unveiling my superhero alter ego. I am merely modelling the mask I got in the post for a night out in a couple of weeks. It's a masquerade theme at a burlesque club (The biggest burlesque club in the world, as stated in the Guinness Book of Records, if you are interested) called Club Noir. The only thing is the eye holes of the mask are a tad small and squish my eyelids, so I am going to have to alter them slightly. Other than that its a WOOP WOOP!

I am not normally one to wear clothing with giant pictures of woodland creatures printed on it.....but this was just too dang cute not to buy!
Wore it to work today and it kept me in a good mood all day. Clearly I will need to find a tee shirt with a door mouse, and perhaps a blouse with a badger on it too, and that'll keep me cheery every day!

Mon petite automobile!! It has returned!
My big brother, Graeme, asked to borrow my car 'for a wee while' before Christmas. His car was sick and he needed a car for work so, being a wonderful sister, I said yes. Little did I realise I would be sans car for a month. Despite being able to borrow my dad's car (one of the perks of living at home) I have missed my wee car so much!
However it has been a source of amusement as apparently my brother has got quite alot of stick from people because, as you can see, my car has pink windscreen wipers and pink butterflies on it. It also has them going up the sides. My car also has a funny little knack of not starting at really inappropriate times. Like in a petrol station for example. This lead to burley gentlemen saying things like 'D'ye need a jump start, luv?' before realising my 6'4 brother is sitting in the driving seat. Hee hee.

Other than picking Eileen up and dropping her back home again, this is the only place I managed to go today. And I went there twice. Considering I didnt get dressed until about 2pm, I think thats quite good. Lazy Sunday tastic.

22.1.11

Myself, my older sister Eileen and my younger sister Sarah all went for a walk in the woods today.

Awwww, sisterly love

I climbed up a tree, and down a hole.

Sarah climbed down the worlds smallest hill backwards and a slow as a wee old lady as she was concerned that she may fall and break her tail bone. Eileen was not impressed. I almost had a hernia laughing.

Sarah and Eileen hid behind trees

We finished the walk with a game of Pooh sticks in the luggie. I won twice, however that was only because the other 2 sticks never appeared under the bridge. We suspect either a beaver or troll stole them.

Finally a nice bit of scenery.

I am going to take a photo once a month from this point, just to see how it changes through the seasons.

The Fog was a horror film, right? Well my drive home from the train station was a bit like a horror film. The fog was so bad in places I could barely see 15 feet infront of me and I was doing about 15mph. Its at those times, in a horror film, you expect the crazy murderer to either suddenly appear standing in the middle of the road causing the star of the movie to swerve wildly and crash into a field and so the film continues with a game of cat and mouse through a dark forest. Or the murderer would pop up from the back seat and slash the throat of the driver. Neither are nice things to be imagining when driving alone, in thick fog on unlit roads that are lined by only fields and trees and the odd house (that is home to a crazy old person who turns out to actually be the murderer). :(

So the train to work this morning was incredibly busy. So busy infact that I couldn't get on the first one.
There were no seats left on this one so I squeezed myself onto a wee ledge behind the first seats that I am pretty sure was some sort of access panel for engineers ( and secret agents) to get under the train.

This picture shows the crook of my elbow. As you can (just about) see, an evil vampire nurse stole some of my blood. As she was taking my blood (to quench her evil thirst) she made me hold the needle, WHILE IT WAS IN MY ARM, so she could get another vial thingy. Evil :( Gutted it hasn't bruised more, because she kept wiggling the needle about.....
My intention was to get a picture while my blood was being taken but, for some reason, I decided to have a rather woozy turn and taking a picture wasn't my top priority (staying upright was).

CHILLI!! This is my favourite dinner, and since my dad is away on business for a couple of days, mum and I typically have an easy dinner (this is usually when we sneak in a McDonalds too! Maybe that'll be tomorrows dinner). Mine was the big plate and, unsurprisingly, I didn't manage to finish it but my tummy is full and I am a happy bunny. Now, to watch some Bondi Rescue!

17.1.11

This is Charlie, my cat. Charlie Bo Barley to give him his full, unofficial name. C Bo B when he's feeling groovy, and Charles when he's looking suave.
Mum wanted to call him Mr Bo Jangles but I swiftly put a stop to that one.
He was called Lottie for a couple of weeks, back when we thought he was a girl (sorry Charlie).
He is, as you can see, a cat of many names, but no longer has quite so many lives.
When he was about a year old he dissapeared for about a week. We put up posters in the street asking people to check sheds and garages for him and one night, at about 10pm he showed up on the back door step looking skinny and terrified. We're pretty sure he got in a shed through a window and couldn't get out until someone opened it. There went life number 1.
Another night, about 2 or 3 years ago, my dad called me through the to livingroom as Charlie was in there, again looking terrified. He couldn't walk properly on one leg and his tail was drooping. A trip to the vets and we figured out he had fallen from a tree, landed square on his buttocks, and broken his tail at the base, also pulling a muscle in his front leg trying to cling to the tree as he made his descent. What followed were 2 very stressful weeks. Because the break was so close to the base of his tail (which is, obviously, part of his spine) we had to make sure he was able to go to the toilet by himself before we could get his tail sorted. If he couldn't go to the toilet, he would have no quality of life. Charlie is very much an outdoor boy, and keeping him cooped up made him quite depressed. Also, I have never had such an obsession with wee and pooh! Thankfully he was ok, but he had to loose his lovely grey ringed tail. Still I would rather have a Charlie with no tail than no Charlie at all! He does now have an amusing stumpy tail, that fluffs up like a pompom when hes excited. But that was life 2, gone.
Thirdy, perhaps a year and a half ago, dad found Charlie sitting on his bedroom windowledge looking, you guessed it, terrified. He couldnt put any weight on his back left leg and his foot was really swollen. Though thankfully it calmed down without having to go to the vet and nothing was broken. I reckon he got it caught in some of the wire fencing around one of the fields. Possibly he leapt over a fence, got stuck, and was left dangling for a bit. Strike 3.
Charlie also has a metal BB pellet in his neck. We have no idea when he was shot, and suspect it was someone out shooting rabbits (which I dont condone, not least because they shot my cat!!) as we live in the countryside. Again, a very lucky escape as I am quite sure Mr Farmer McShooty was aiming for his head. 4th time unlucky.
So at last count my cat has 5 lives and 6 names. I love my Charlie Boy......oh theres another name!

Today me, Eileen and Elise went to visit our Aunt Isobel and Uncle Mike.

We had some cake

Elise played with a fairy shoe house thing (and tried to smuggle some fairies out of the building)

Lucy the dog tried (and failed) to get food off of everyone. She also tried (and succeeded) to get pats off of everyone.

And I got the last piece of my Christmas present! I may be almost half way through it already.

A lovely afternoon was had by all. I believe the next time we go visit, we've to take roller skates. That'll make for some amusing photos, no doubt about it!

Was babysitting for my big sister and her husband tonight while they went out for a few hours with some chums. The boys both managed to beat me at a card game designed for people aged 8 and up. Lewis is 6 (l) and Andrew is 7 (r).....and I am 28 :(

Arent they just lovely?
Unfortunately their wee sister was in her bed by the time I got round to taking the picture.

14.1.11

This is my new favourite programme. It's about the lifeguards on Bondi Beach rescuing drowning people and such like. It has basically cemented in my mind that people just should not go into water any more than knee deep.

13.1.11

Ouch, my knee!! Decided to do an impromptu ice skate this morning going to the car and ended up in a half split on my knee. Very graceful.
I think I jinxed myself last night as I was talking to my eldest nephew about the snow, and how neither of us had fallen despite the fact that the paths have been trecherous for about a month and a half. Found out tonight that he also slipped and fell on the ice this morning, outside school. Sorry Connor!

12.1.11

This evening I went to my nephews school show. It was their Christmas show, but with all the terrible weather in December the school was shut quite a few days so the rehersals didnt get done.
It was a bit different, being Hansel and Gretel instead of your bog standard nativity play so it was quite good. One of my nephews even got a line! But all 3 were fab. Next year there will be all 4 of my nephews in the school play. It'll be the only year that happens as the oldest will be off to highschool after that (!!!!)

11.1.11

Doing phone cover today in work and it was booooooring! I do an hour everyday over lunch time and normally you're kept going with either long complicated calls or lots of short ones. Today was all short calls, which were very few and far between. I took 5 calls in the space of an hour and none lasted more than 5 minutes. I was actually struggling to think of things to dooddle....

10.1.11

So absolutely nothing of note or interest happened today and as a result I have no photo. Rubbish for week 2, right? D-, Must try harder.
However in order to keep you sweet I have a picture of a wee capuchin monkey taking a photo. Maybe he has his own blog....

9.1.11

My big sister Eileen and niece Elise came to visit today. I believe the males of their household were having a geeky day and playing Magic cards.

Despite Elise looking very happy in this picture the only words I got out of her today were 'NO!' and 'Bed!'. She sends me to my bed alot, not that I'm complaining. She is usually quite the poser but she refused to smile for a picture for me. I only managed this one because Eileen was tickling her and doing 'bubblies' on her tummy.

8.1.11

Having a little tipple this fine evening. I am not generally a big drinker but this stuff is YUM! My mum and I purchased it in the summer while on a family holiday in the north of France. Its made from apples, and is rather tasty with some tonic water and ice.
In other news, I shovelled the driveway, but it snowed again. Stupid snow.

*edit* Oooh! This post has officially pushed my blog to two pages. Oh the excitement!

7.1.11

Snow!!! Its been snowing. Not alot, I'll admit, but its just the start. We are due for heay snow tonight, and the temperature has been dropping (it was -7 degrees C this morning in the car).
So long as it doesnt end up like it was a few weeks ago. This photo is taken from about a metre or so further down the patio about a month ago.

We still have compacted ice on the driveway from the last deluge of bad weather, and have use kilos and kilos of grit and salt. I used to love snow :(

*edit* Its also my wee sisters birthday today. She's 24. Happy Birthday, Sarah. It means that today it is EXACTLY 6 months until my birthday. :D

6.1.11

So it was a cold evening. So cold, infact, that the inside of the windscreen on the car was frozen.
Being impatient people my dad and I scraped the ice off, resulting in some lovely in car snow.

I bet you cant quite believe how exciting my life is!

Wednesday, 5 January 2011

5.1.11

This *was* my photo for today. It shows how ridiculously early for work I was. I start at 9 and normally i get in about 8:45. However for some unknown reason I was in and sitting at my desk for 8:27. However late morning something incredibly exciting (for me) happened......

MY NEW CHAIR ARRIVED!!! I have been trying to get a decent chair for MONTHS, and this was ordered waaaaay back in October. It has about 187 levers and buttons, and even an air pump! It may seem peculiar to get excited over a chair but the regular work chairs are so bad it felt like my spine was collapsing on itself.
Also, he is called Fred. :)

4.1.11

This morning I was the only person IN THE WORLD going to work. That may be a slight exaggeration but I took this photo at 7:55am while waiting on my (late) train. The 2 platforms were empty. Normally they are packed with people. Particularly when the train is late.
Today is a Scottish bank holiday, however because the company I work for has a head office in England we are classed as an English company and are, therefore, forced to work on Scottish holidays :(
Also note the clumps of snow around the lamposts... It hasn't snowed in WEEKS but it just wont go away!

3.1.11

Today was the 2nd birthday of my niece, Elise. This is her birthday cake which was made by my dad (her granda) and decorated by my younger sister, her Auntie Sarah, with Peppa Pig (oink oink!). For reference, this is Peppa Pig in her cartoon glory:

Pretty good, eh?

Also, in other news, anyone for some guinea pig salad?

NB - Ok, so I know I said '1 photo a day' but lets just agree to change that to 'ATLEAST 1 photo a day'. Ok? ok.
